Reminder to Submit Nominations for Academic Senate 2024 Spring Elections

Academic Senate

To: Members of the Los Angeles Division of the Academic Senate

Dear Academic Senate Faculty:

As a reminder, we welcome your nominations for the Senate Vice Chair/Chair-Elect, the Executive Board, and the Committee on Committees (ConC) positions. The deadline to submit nominations is Friday, March 22, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. PDT. Please visit Senate Elections for information about the following open positions, including eligibility and how to nominate colleagues or yourself.

Nominations for Vice Chair/Chair-Elect

The Vice Chair serves as part of the Senate’s Leadership Team. The Vice Chair (1) assumes the duties of the Chair in the Chair's absence or incapacity; (2) performs such duties as are assigned by the Chair; (3) serves as Vice Chair of the Executive Board and as an ex officio member of the Legislative Assembly. The term is one year, beginning on September 1, following election. At the conclusion of this term, the Vice Chair succeeds to the Chair. In year three, the individual serves as Immediate Past Chair. The total term of service is three years.

Nominations for At-Large Members of the Executive Board

Members of the Executive Board coordinate and review actions and proposals from Senate committees and administration. They consult with and advise the Divisional Chairs on all matters, including issues brought to attention from outside the Senate or administration’s formal structures. At-large members serve two-year terms.

Nominations for Committee on Committee (ConC) Members

ConC members nominate, select, and appoint the Chair, Vice Chair, and all non-ex officio members of each standing committee. ConC annually appoints representatives to UC-level committees. They also suggest members for joint Senate-Administration Committees and advise the Administration on faculty nominees for search and review committees. ConC seats are three-year terms.
