Jaime Balboa assumed the post of Chief Administrative Officer for the UCLA Academic Senate in July 2005. In this capacity, he serves as the chief of staff for the Senate Chair, and the chief policy analyst for the Senate. Before joining the Senate Office, Jaime served as the Chief of Staff for Larkin Street Youth Services in San Francisco—an agency that helps homeless and runaway youth and young adults permanently exit street life. There he was the number two executive for the agency with a $9.2M budget and a staff of 120. In his free time, Balboa swims with the Bruin Masters Swim Club and competes as an amateur triathlete. He earned his bachelor degree in English from Adrian College in Adrian, Michigan, completed a master of theological studies, magna cum laude, from Duke University and earned his PhD from the Graduate Theological Union, Berkeley.Welcome to the Academic Senate Website. Through the Academic Senate, the UCLA faculty participates in a system of dual authority and responsibility called shared governance. In the shared governance system, the Regents invest the faculty, through the Academic Senate, with responsibility to exercise direct control over academic matters.

Linda Mohr, Academic Senate Assistant Chief Administrative Officer, has worked in the Senate for 7½ years and on the campus for 23½ years. Linda’s career at UCLA started with working for Administration followed by working in the Life Sciences departments, and now supports faculty and administration for the Academic Senate in the appointment of faculty to the Senate’s twenty-three committees, managing the program review process, and the review of budget and strategic plans. Linda enjoys working with the vast diversity of faculty, as each brings their own personality and wisdom to the various committees.

Gloria Tovar was born in Bogota, Colombia. She received her A.A degree in Accounting and Business administration from Santa Monica College and her B.A. degree in International Development Studies, with 3 minors in Political Science, Latin American Studies and Middle Eastern and North African Studies from the University of California, Los Angeles. She serves as staff support for the Judicial Committees. Gloria enjoys being part of the UCLA community and she plans to further her studies and build a long career in the university. Go Bruins!

A UCLA graduate, Ryan grew up on the Westside of Los Angeles. He recieved his B.A. in the fields of History and Political Science (International Relations) in 2007. He serves as staff support for the Senate Leadership, the Executive Board, the Council on Faculty Chairs, and the Legislative Assembly. He enjoys playing guitar, listening to music, travelling to far off places, and following politics.

A native of Boston, MA, Cathy Davis has worked at UCLA for 11 years and the Senate for 18 months, helping faculty and staff uphold the tenets of the Academic Senate. Her intimate knowledge of the Council on Research and Committee on Library has been a tremendous contribution to the academic process. She particularly enjoys managing the Faculty Grants Program which provides Senate faculty members with funds to conduct research. Cathy loves spending time reading and going to the movies with friends.

Brandie Henderson was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. She received her B.A in Sociology from the University of California, Santa Barbara. She is the Analyst for the Committee on Continuing and Community Education, Faculty Welfare Committee, Committee on Diversity and Equal Opportunity, Intercollegiate Athletics Committee and the University Emeriti and Pre-Retirement Relations Committee. Brandie has been with the Academic Senate Office since December of 2005.

Carolynne Hogg’s career in academe started at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, where she worked for eight years. But before coming to UCLA she also worked as a boutique manager and a social worker. She eventually ended up at UCLA and in the Academic Senate, where she is the Principal Policy Analyst staffing CAP. Carolynne has served on a task force to develop tracking software that will make uniform the academic personnel process. Between her Herculean efforts to ensure that the Council of Academic Personnel runs smoothly on the one hand, and raising her eight year old son together with her husband, on the other, Carolynne stays quite busy. “My son’s hobbies tend to become my own,” she remarks. From baseball games to trips to the museum to walking the family schnauzer, Gulliver, Carolynne keeps a full plate. UCLA is lucky to have her.

Dayna Baker is excited to join the Academic Senate team after completing four years of service as a Resident Director with the Office of Residential Life at UCLA.  As a Senior Policy Analyst, she will work with the Judicial Committees including:  Rules & Jurisdiction, Grievance Advisory, Charges, Privilege & Tenure and Academic Freedom.  Originally from New Jersey, Dayna completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech Communication from Ithaca College and a Masters degree in Higher Education and Student Affairs Administration from Indiana University prior to moving to Los Angeles.  Dayna loves traveling, dancing, theatre and the great outdoors!

Dorothy Ayer, better known as Dottie, was born and raised in Ventura, CA.  In May 2006, Dottie graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Madison, where she received her B.A. in both Political Science and Legal Studies.  Dottie serves as the primary staff person for the Faculty Research Lectureship, The Committee on Teaching, and the Gold Shield Faculty Prize Committee.  Dottie enjoys traveling, watching movies, and spending time with friends and family.

Lorena Rodriguez is new to UCLA. She works on the Council on Academic Personnel as an Administrative Assistant. She has a background in Social Work and Case Management. Lorena hopes to use the skillset obtained from this position to further her studies in Sociology.  In her spare time Lorena enjoys swing dancing, reading and attending sporting events.

Kyle Cunningham joined the Academic Senate in January 2008 after serving over a decade in the UCLA Graduate Division as the Coordinator of Postdoctoral & Visiting Scholar Services.  Prior to joining the UCLA family, he spent two years on a Fulbright-DAAD fellowhip in Germany, where he gave instruction in the grammar schools on the English language and American culture.  He was raised on Camano Island in the Pacific Northwest and received his baccalaureate from Central Washington University.  Kyle now staffs the Graduate Council, its subcommittees and the Committee on Committees.
