Award Terms and Conditions

The following costs are NOT supported by the Faculty Grants Program:

  • Basic cost of departmental infrastructure (teaching/instruction & administration), repairs or maintenance of equipment
  • Purchase of non-research specific equipment (e.g., telephones, cellular phones, FAX machines, scanners).
  • Research performed solely by graduate students in connection with their ongoing studies and dissertation.
  • Purchase of reprints, periodicals, books, office furniture.
  • Publication costs or subventions to publishers; preparation of textbooks.
  • Any costs associated with tuition, teaching or instruction; membership fees.
  • Fellowships.
  • Conference travel (Apply to COR’s Conference Travel Program).
  • Authority is given to the Principal Investigator (PI) to budget the total amount of the grant in any of the approved categories marked on this Notice of Award. The PI may, at his/her discretion, move funds among categories, except into “Field Expenses” or “Permanent Equipment” categories (this includes the purchase of computers, unless requested and approved in original application). If you wish to change the research travel venue requested in your original proposal, you must obtain written approval from the Council prior to the trip.
  • All grant recipients must comply with section IV of UCLA Policy 910: Management of Contract and Grant Projects, which outlines the responsibilities of the Principal Investigator.
  • It is the responsibility of the Principal Investigator to determine whether the above referenced research requires either an approval or exemption from HSPC or ARC before utilizing award funds. Research proposals must be approved by the appropriate Committee prior to the initiation of any activity, and the research may not continue past its approved term.
  • Travel expenses will be processed in accordance with the policies of the University of California and procedures set forth by UCLA Travel Accounting.
  • Acknowledgment of this grant support should be made in any publication resulting entirely or in part from funds provided by the Council on Research of the Academic Senate of the Los Angeles Division of the University of California.
