Dear Colleagues,

On November 13, 2006 the Faculty Welfare Committee piloted the Faculty Welfare Survey. The goal of the survey was to identify the issues that were of high priority to the faculty. The Faculty Welfare Committee now better understands the expressed needs of the UCLA faculty. The Faculty Welfare Committee and Academic Senate Leadership will use the survey results to guide their advocacy on the behalf of the faculty with the University Administration or when they are asked to opine on proposed policies and initiatives.

The Faculty Welfare Survey Subcommittee was charged with the responsibility of constructing, distributing, analyzing, and interpreting the survey. In their analysis the Survey Subcommittee made several recommendations, including alterations to future surveys and the Faculty Welfare Committee’s Bylaws. The survey results and findings are attached. The Faculty Welfare Committee is extremely appreciative of the creative work of the Survey Subcommittee, specifically: Jaime Balboa, Phil Harber, Brandie Henderson, and Rose Maly.

The Faculty Welfare Committee would like to thank the faculty members for their participation. We will encourage more faculty members to participate in the 2007 Faculty Welfare Survey.
