Authority
As delegated by the President, Emeritus status may be conferred by the
Chancellor to academic appointees who are not members of the Academic
Senate;
and to non-academic Management and Senior Professional or Senior
Management Group personnel.
The title suffix Emeritus shall be attached
to the payroll title of the individual at retirement after consultation
with the appropriate committee of the Academic Senate.

Nominees who meet specific criteria established by the President
will be judged accordingly:

Nominees shall hold the following titles:

Management and Senior Professional Titles

Management Group Titles
Procedures
The following procedures will be used for granting the Emeritus title:
- A recommendation for Emeritus status
should be made to the Chancellor by the Department Chair or
appropriate Administrative Officer through the Vice
Chancellor--Academic Personnel. The recommendation, which should
normally be made shortly before the date of retirement, should be
accompanied by a brief history of the individual's University
employment (a curriculum vitae may be submitted) and summary of how
the criteria set forth above have been fulfilled. The date of
retirement should be indicated in each case.
- An endorsement from the Dean or Vice
Chancellor shall
accompany the request.
- A minimum of three letters of support
attesting to the meritorious contribution of the individual
should be
included.
- All nominations for Emeritus status
should be sent to Sheila Wallace in the Office of Academic Personnel.
- The Committee on
University Emeriti & Pre-Retirement Relations will review, vote
and make a recommendation to the Chancellor through the Vice
Chancellor--Academic Personnel regarding the request for
Emeritus status.
- Upon approval of a recommendation for
Emeritus status, the Chancellor will notify the appointee in writing
of the specific Emeritus title bestowed and its effective date.
- Following approval by the Chancellor, a
change to Emeritus status will be effected by issuance of the
appropriate payroll form.
