Because great teachers come from all academic ranks we encourage your department to nominate anyone who teaches graduate or undergraduate students and meets the program's criteria.
The Academic Senate Committee on Teaching will name six meembers of the Senate, three non-Senate faculty, and five teaching assistants to receive awards in the following categories:
The Undergraduate Mentorship Award, introduced in 2004-05, will be reviewed separately from the other five Senate member awards. If a member has been a Distinguished Teaching Award recipient he/she cannot be nominated for the Mentorship Award and vice versa.
Each recipient will receive a cash award. The Senate winners will be given $6,000, non-Senate winners will be given $3,000, and the teaching assistants will be given $2,500. A $18,000 Dissertation Fellowship Award from the UCLA Graduate Division will also be given to teaching assistants who advance to candidacy by fall quarter of the year in which they receive the teaching award. In addition, the recipients will each receive an elegant certificate of recognition and media exposure.
The names of the winners in all three categories will be announced publicly at the Spring Legislative Assembly meeting on June 9, 2008. All recipients will be honored and given their cash award at the annual Andrea L. Rich Night to Honor Teaching Ceremony in Fall 2008. The date of this event will be anounced later this year. In addition, the Senate winners will be recognized at the UCLA Alumni Association Awards Ceremony in Spring 2008.
